Marketing, Networking, and Ads - Oh My!
I’ve been spending huge amounts of time lately on marketing. I know I have to. I’m a first time author, right? I HAVE to work on selling Dark Harmony. But I read a blog recently that kind of gave me a kick in the pants. Basically it said don’t bother spending all this time marketing, go write another really good book. My friend Cathryn Fox said the same thing. And yet it didn’t stick. I blogged, did guest interviews, twittered and facebooked. I journaled – although not that much, LOL.

But guess what? I wasn’t writing! I didn’t have time. I work a full time job and have kids. I just don’t have time to do it all. So I figure it’s time to get back to writing.

Oookay. Write. Except now guess what? I want to write a story that is different than the one I have to write for my contract. I can’t get it out of my mind. It wants to be written!! Argh. So I wrote some notes, and some more notes and suddenly I wrote the first chapter of that book I wasn’t supposed to be writing. And guess what again? It isn’t even in my genre! So now I have yet another delaying tactic from the book I ought to be writing. I have a new genre to consider, a new pen name possibly. A new website perhaps.

So I am having a great time with all of this when it hits me. It is the end of January. I need my Dark Seduction book #2 to be finished by the end of March! Eeek! Like a dash of cold water in the face I have clarity. If I want to be a writer I have to play by the rules. Take it professionally! Do the job, Lilly.

Thank god my writing job is sooo fun. I just wrote a sex scene that could melt you into a puddle lust. YUM, was that ever good. And so I’m back on track.
