Pain,
exquisite pain, thread through her
nerves. It pulsed with a life of its own and it pushed her body
to follow its rhythm instead of the natural tempo of her heart.
She shuddered, rocking back and forth. She clutched her thin
shift to her sweat soaked skin. For the third time in as many
months, she endured the anguish and the twisting, wrenching
sensations of her body as it shaped itself into something new.
She endured it alone.
Each hair on her body quivered to life as the change progressed.
Sensation flooded the pain, swept it aside as power drowned the
agony. Her senses, already achingly acute doubled, and then
trebled, finally growing beyond human measure. What had once
been a darkened room, bare but for the shadows forming in the
moonlight, grew bright - the silver beams of the moon burning
into her eyes.
Overwhelmed, she stood for a moment, the pain gone but the
anguish remaining as she tried to absorb the overpowering
sensations. She was beset by the odors of the room. Most
predominant was the stench of fear, emanating from her own body.
The sounds of her harsh breaths roared in her ears. She ripped
the last of her clothing from her, its texture suddenly more
than she could bear.
One item remained against her skin - the leather of a collar
that threatened to strangle her. In an attempt to claw it from
her, she discovered it was studded. The metal burned against her
efforts. It could not be removed. Worse, it was attached to a
chain. She threw herself against a wall as she discovered her
boundaries - the chain was bolted to the floor.
She screamed now, her mind intent on escape, all other thoughts
gone, the pain forgotten, and her nakedness unimportant. It was
beyond her to realize the room was familiar -- the chain one she
had purchased herself. Her scream became a howl. |
